ISSA Sacramento Valley Chapter Meeting - 10/20/2023 11:30a-13:00p

Primary tabs

Speaker: Daly Barnett, Staff Technologist, Electronic Frontier Foundation

Topic: Humans Don’t Live In Corporate Networks

Synopsis: The vast majority of infosec resources are tooled to protect corporate networks, not social ones. Not only does this undermine the OPSEC needs of people in need, it exacerbates the dangers they face under increased surveillance, censorship, and criminalization of basic human rights. Zero Trust is just one example of an antisocial infosec paradigm that’s frankly not useful for real people in the real world. Bridging the gaps and making amends between the world of corporate infosec and communities in need is more important than ever before. How can you help? How can you make others care? What resources already exist?

Speaker Bio: Daly Barnett is a staff technologist at the EFF. She is also an artist, activist, and community organizer. Before arriving to EFF, she was the founder of t4tech, a trans forward tech collective based in NYC. She is also a part of Hacking Hustling, a sex workers advocacy organization, where her title is Witch.
