Speaker: Steven Templeton, Ph.D.
Topic: Elder Fraud Prevention - Safeguarding Seniors and Empowering Caretakers (Get the slides here)
Synopsis: Elder fraud is a serious and growing problem: According to an FBI "Elder Crime" report from 2022, there were over 88,000 victims age 60 and over who reported fraud to the "Internet Crime Complaint Center" and who combined lost $3.1 billion. That reflects a huge 84% increase in losses from 2021. (https://www.ic3.gov/Media/PDF/AnnualReport/2022_IC3ElderFraudReport.pdf) In this presentation, Steven Templeton will talk about the "red flags" that seniors and their caretakers and children should watch out for, and how to empower seniors to identify and prevent their falling prey to scams. Steven will also talk about legal and reporting aspects of elder fraud, community support and resources, and recount some case studies and success stories. This is a talk for everyone who has a family member at risk for cyber fraud. Please spread the word that our meetings are open to everyone and invite your friends and family members to listen in.
