Synopsis: For over 35 years, the Army has been using a systematic, iterative process of analyzing the battlefield environment and getting “inside” the enemy’s thought process. Both Military Commanders and CIOs/ISOs know that information is of greatest value when it contributes to the decision-making process, rather than just trusting what the latest security blog or threat feed is telling them.

In this session, we will propose a more comprehensive and deliberate process of securing your own operational environment: Intelligence Preparation of the Cyber Environment (IPCE); which is adapted from the military method, and broken down into four steps that can be easily followed. We will give an overview of how intelligence-driven data feeds into not just HOW you secure your network, but WHO you are securing it against. We’ll conclude with an example of how IPCE can be implemented within your own environment, and what actions can be taken to protect against threats specific to YOUR organization.

Speaker Bio: Brit is the Risk and Compliance Manager at Optm Inc., while also serving the Air National Guard as an Intelligence Analyst and mother to 2 tween boys. They manage key initiatives such as: ensuring NIST compliance, implementing risk management methodologies, conducting audits and self- inspections, researching and responding to enterprise-wide security vulnerabilities, and developing, writing, and maintaining security programs, policies, and procedures.
