Topic:  Wireless Security: Looking forward to WPA3 and Wi-Fi 6/802.11ax

Speaker: Carl A. Neidhardt, President, CARLNTECH LLC

Summary: Wi-Fi networking represents a significant portion of our computing environments, providing continued convenience and flexibility, but also presenting a large attack surface to our networks.  Improvements have been made to the encryption protocols in the form of WPA3, which is expected to continue gaining adoption as part of the next WiFi standard “,” now referred to as “Wi-Fi 6.”  But researchers are already attacking the WPA3 protocol, including work on a series of vulnerabilities referred to as “Dragonblood,” as a nod to the integral “Dragonfly” handshake method that WPA3 relies on.  Additional understanding of how WPA3 works can help us in defending our wireless networks, and in benefitting from newer, faster standards such as 802.11ax/Wi-Fi 6.
