Topic:  Development of the DoD Cyber Academy

Presenter:  Ray Bareiss, Ph.D., Member of Sacramento Valley Chapter, is a Senior Vice President at Socratic Arts and the Chief Education Officer of Experiential Teaching Online (http://www.xtolcorp.com/), a leading provider of online courses and degree programs in partnership with top universities.
Before joining Socratic Arts and XTOL, Dr. Bareiss was Director of Educational Programs and Professor of the Practice of Software Engineering and Software Management at Carnegie Mellon's Silicon Valley Campus, where he oversaw and taught in two unique, learning-by-doing, professional master's programs.  Dr. Bareiss specializes in computer-based learning environments, organizational memory and computer-based performance support, new product development, human-computer interaction, and cased-based reasoning. He is also the author of a number of books and articles. Dr. Bareiss holds a Ph.D. in Computer Sciences and a B.S. in Communication from the University of Texas at Austin.

Description:  This talk will describe the development of a "Cyber Academy" for the DoD (with $1.6M in funding) that has the goal of taking people from novice to job-ready in six months, focusing on the challenges of developing such training as well as the underlying cognitive science principles that informed the process. This program is currently offered outside the DoD through partners such as UC Davis, UT Austin, and Rutgers.
