We are fortunate to hear again from our own, Mark Heckman, PhD, is a professional Information Security educator for the University of San Diego, California.

Many, many security tools are based on cryptography. Even digital currencies, such as bitcoin, are entirely built on cryptographic techniques. While there are a large number of cryptographic algorithms, there are only a handful of basic cryptographic "building blocks": symmetric ciphers, asymmetric ciphers, hashes, MACs, and digital signatures. We'll cover each of these at a high level (don't worry; no math skills are necessary for this talk) and discuss how they are used to build applications such as authenticators, Bitcoin, and smart cards.

We look forward to seeing you soon to discuss the topic of the day, crypography!

We will also have a short discussion of the needs of your industry. So come prepared to bring your topics for more great discussions in security in future chapter get togethers.
