Abstract: Public cloud computing has great potential to allow us to save on infrastructure costs, and accelerate the pace of development and deployment of line-of-business applications and services. However, there can be a mistaken assumption that the public cloud is ‘automagically’ secure by default. Recent data breaches in the news tell us that this is not the case. In this presentation, we will discuss some high-level aspects of security in the public cloud and compare these ideas with what we do in a traditional data center.

Carl Neidhardt has worked in IT since 1986, for both the public and the private sector, including 11 years at Check Point Software. He holds a B.S. in Business Information Systems, along with the ISC2 CISSP and 3 Associate-level AWS certifications. Carl is a regular presenter on security topics at local forums like the Cyber Security Symposium, DataConnectors, and for the Sacramento Chapter of ISSA.
